WED Basics and Specifics

(all subject to discussions with our hosting partners)

 

ON-SITE ORGANIZATION:

An LGU-Civil Society Joint Commemorative Committee with city official and civil society leader designated as contact persons for WED-Philippines central secretariat, which shall function as Manila-based publicity secretariat.

 

SCHEDULE:

Sunday  (closest to June 5)

Whole Day—    “Green Families and Green Communities Festival”

(a one-day “mini-fair” centered at a clearly-marked public open space, with “Green Expo” of environment-friendly products and exhibits; with outdoor-oriented physical activity/ies, with educational booths &/or mini-forums on environmental concerns; and/or with artistic presentations.)

Late morning—Formal Opening Program (with reading of UN Message preferably by an officially-designated UN representative; WED-Phils. Message, to be read by the one or both of the outgoing WED-Phils. Co-chairs or their officially-designated representatives; talks from LGU officials and guests from outside the host city; plus artistic presentations in various forms)

Noontime—     Lunch Shared by some elected Local Government Officials, leaders of local environment movements, WED-Philippines and other visiting delegations  

Afternoon—     WED-Philippines Network Annual Assembly

(attended by WED-Phils delegation, and leaders of environmental groups and civic groups and barangay captains who can attend)

Early Evening—Press Conference

 

Monday (day following the above)

Morning: Proposed Inclusions in Flag Ceremony:

1.     Reading of WED Message from the United Nations

2.     Reading of Message from WED-Philippines Network

3.     Response from the Local Chief Executive(s)

4.     Response from Citizenry (by representative of local environment movt)

 

June 5  (Exact Date of WED Every Year Worldwide)

Evening: 

1.     “Handshakes and Hugs” Multi-Nationality Ceremony

2.      Closing Ceremonies

 

LOGISTICS:  A synergy of resources pooled from the members of the host community, plus any revenue from advertising placements in billboards and equivalent, and possible souvenir program project and a poster project with displayed logos of sponsors.
